23800.210    Marshall Expedition Film Screening     Jan-Apr - 2021

200 years ago today Chief Justice John Marshall, along with a crew of boatmen, completed a river survey through Appalachia aimed at determining the feasibility of a canal that would connect Richmond with the Ohio River Valley. In tribute to Marshall’s vision and courage, a crew of Lynchburg batteauxmen constructed a batteau replica and traveled 225 miles upstream on the James and Jackson Rivers, then descended 130 miles on the Greenbrier and New. View the documentary of this on the big screen in the Miller Center Theater and participate in a Q&A with the crewmen and local historians. Courtesy registration appreciated. Call to reserve a group.
